Washington DC Part 2

Saturday, August 14

Our pictures are kind of random... Nevertheless here are some of our favorites...

Starting at...

We went to Ford's Theater

In the basement there is a museum, this is the gun that was used to kill Lincoln

The Box where Lincoln was sitting when he was shot

Across the street from the theater is The Peterson House where Lincoln 

was taken after he was shot and he died 9 hours later.

After the Post Office we went to the Smithsonian Castle which is a great place to go 1st.

Because a video is shown that goes through all the Smithsonian's and gives the highlights.

We then met up with our cousins, Jed and Allyson, who live in Virginia

and we took a tour of the Capitol.  

We didn't get very many pictures because the tour was really fast.

After the Capitol, we walked to the Holocaust Museum.  We once again didn't get any pictures.  

You're not allowed to take pictures in side and we didn't take any outside.

We did A LOT of walking on Saturday and our feet really hurt. 

We went and got something to eat and then rode the Metro back to the Hotel.

Sunday, August 15

We found a church to attend on Sunday morning up be behind the Capitol Building.

We went to the American History Museum, the Art and Portrait Museum, and Arlington Cemetery.

Just watched the movie "Julie and Julia" and the have a Julia Child's Exhibit

We weren't allowed to take pictures at the Art and Portrait Museum, but

it was a neat museum.  The first two floors were your usual art, old and gorgeous.

The third floor was the modern art.  Some of it was really neat but some of it was really weird.

We walked through a Norman Rockwell Exhibit.  That was NEAT!!

Our feet hurt from the day before and so when we got to the Metro and we had done a lot of walking

already.  Arlington Cemetery is NOT small, but we made the trek anyway.

I am GLAD we did.

We had a very full day.

We went back to the Hotel, had French Toast for dinner and relaxed!

Monday, August 16

I went up town first thing in the morning to get tickets to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (paper mint). 

While downtown I got to see Marine One.  

I got my camera out to take a picture and the batteries were dead...Great!

We got the tickets and went downtown and had Potbelly's for dinner...YUM!

We couldn't take pictures on the tour at the Mint but in the gift shop we could.

I'm about $1,537,809 tall

Steve is about $1,584,400 tall

We also had tickets up the Washington Monument but not until 8:30p. 

We walked around the Mall and ended up at the WWII Monument.

Our time finally came to go up the Washington Monument.  

Up inside the Washington Monument.  The windows were foggy so the pictures are kind of blurry.

After we got back down we went and walked around the other Monuments.

The Vietnam Monument was not lit up well enough to get a decent picture.

We had another day of A LOT of walking... and our feet were really sore.

We got back to the Hotel, packed my bag and went to bed.

I left at 6:35am and so we were up and on the train by  5:15am.

We had a WONDERFUL time and I am really glad that I got to go.

Now Steven is home for a while and we are counting down until our little boy joins the family.

1 month tomorrow!
